
Overview
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy is a polar icebreaker built by Avondale Industries and operated by the U.S. Coast Guard. The Healy is designed for oceanographic research in polar regions because it can operate in temperatures as low as -45 degrees Celsius and can break 4.5 feet of ice continuously at 3 knots. It has over 4,200 square feet of laboratory space and is equipped with advanced technology and equipment for various research activities. The Healy is approximately 128 meters long and can carry up to 50 researchers.
