The Campaign
The Winter Storms and Pacific Atmospheric Rivers (WISPAR) was a NOAA-led field investigation with the primary objective of evaluating the capabilities of the NOAA/NASA Global Hawk (GH) uncrewed aircraft and the NCAR/NOAA dropsonde system. It consisted of one deployment in February and March 2011 across the Pacific Ocean. GH completed three science flights and deployed 177 dropsondes into atmospheric rivers, winter storms, and the remote Arctic atmosphere. WISPAR was a collaborative effort among NOAA, NASA, and NCAR.
