The Campaign
The Stratospheric Aerosol processes, Budget, and Radiative Effects (SABRE) is an ongoing field campaign aimed at improving our understanding of the stratosphere's composition, chemistry, and dynamics, and how these processes influence the climate. SABRE has completed three winter deployments: the 2022 and 2025 deployments were based in Houston, Texas, and the 2023 deployment was conducted across the Arctic. SABRE has utilized the NASA WB-57 aircraft to collect in situ measurements of trace gases and aerosols in the lower stratosphere. SABRE is mainly led by NOAA's Chemical Sciences Laboratory (CSL), with NASA as a significant participant.
