The Campaign
The European AQUA Thermodynamic Experiment (EAQUATE) was a field investigation focused on validating satellite-based atmospheric soundings and improving retrievals of temperature, water vapor, and radiative properties. EAQUATE included a single deployment over Italy and the United Kingdom during the boreal fall of 2004. The Proteus and FAAM Airborne Laboratory aircraft collected remote sensing and in situ measurements of trace gases, aerosols, cloud properties, water vapor, and temperature. Ground-based lidar and radiometers also collected additional measurements. EAQUATE supported the validation of the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) on the Aqua satellite.
